Overview:
The Wyoming State Trails Program is accepting applications for the Non-Motorized Trails Grant Program, a one-time competitive funding opportunity established by the Wyoming Legislature for the 2026–2028 biennium.
Funded through the Wyoming Office of Tourism, the program supports shovel-ready projects that increase natural-surface, non-motorized recreation opportunities on publicly accessible lands throughout Wyoming.

Who Can Apply?:
Eligible applicants include:
- Public land management agencies
- Nongovernmental organizations (NGOs)
Projects must be located on publicly accessible lands within Wyoming.
Eligible Projects:
Funding is available for natural-surface, non-motorized trail projects, including:
- New trail construction
- Trail maintenance and rehabilitation
- Trailheads
- Trail bridges
- Restrooms
- Kiosks
- Bike stations
- Other trail-supporting infrastructure
New construction projects receive additional scoring priority during the evaluation process.
Project Requirements:
Projects must:
- Increase natural-surface, non-motorized recreation opportunities.
- Be shovel-ready at the time of application.
- Have all required environmental and cultural clearances completed before contract execution.
- Be completed by December 31, 2028.
Planning efforts, including project design, engineering, and surveys, are not eligible for funding.
Funding Requirements:
- Minimum grant request: $15,000
- Maximum grant request: $800,000
- Minimum required cash match: 50% (1:1)
- In-kind contributions and volunteer labor do not qualify toward the required cash match.
- This is a reimbursement grant, with up to 50% of awarded funds available upfront after contract execution.
