Kaleb Simonson and Maggie Heller both finished first in their respective categories during the 7th Annual “Run Like a Bighorn” 10K road race in Sinks Canyon on Saturday. Simonson set a new course record during this year’s run.

Thirty-seven runners and hikers competed for gift certificates from Wild Iris awarded to the top three men, women and youth finishers. Other runners had a chance to win classes from Ananda Yoga and Elemental Fitness. This year’s participants ranged from ages 13 to 61.

“We are grateful to everyone who came out to support Sinks Canyon on Saturday,” Park Superintendent Jamie Simonson said. “From the runners to the sponsors to the spectators, it was clear that people were there because they realize Sinks Canyon is such a special place.”

This year’s sponsors were the Sinks Canyon Natural Resource Council, the Central Wyoming Climber’s Alliance, Wild Iris, Elemental Fitness, Ananda Yoga, Mr. D’s Grocery and Meridian Trust Federal Credit Union.

All proceeds from the race go directly to the park Visitor Center and are used for park interpretation and educational projects.
