Throw In Your Fishing Line

Boysen Reservoir contains a diverse fishery. Anglers will discover walleye, sauger, perch, crappie, ling, rainbow, cutthroat and brown trout as the major sports species. Other game fish present are largemouth bass, bluegill, stonecat, black bullhead, mountain whitefish, lake trout, brook trout and splake.

Non-game species include carp, fathead minnow, plains killifish, golden and sand shiners; flathead, lake and creek chubs; white., longnose and northern redhorse suckers and the river carpsucker.

Fishing licenses may be obtained locally at Boysen Lake Marina and other area merchants.

Geocaching is allowed and officially recognized at Boysen State Park in Wyoming.

You'll discover established waypoints and hidden caches scattered across the park, especially around the popular areas on the east side of the reservoir, including by the dam. You won't find any caches in campsites or park residential areas.

Before you set off, make sure to download offline maps of the park or the geocaching waypoints to your device, since cell service can be spotty in some sections of the park.

Hunting at Boysen State Park is seasonal and takes place in designated areas, primarily within Wyoming Hunt Area 15.

This area includes Boysen State Park located south of Cottonwood Creek and west of Boysen Reservoir, as well as the lands within the park that are south of U.S. Highway 20-26.

Hunters can pursue their activities as long as they stay at least 400 yards away from facilities and campgrounds, while also adhering to all Wyoming state hunting regulations.

Our park has three group shelters.

The one at Lower Wind Campground and the one at Tough Creek Campground can each be reserved for $50, plus a $50 cleaning deposit. To make a reservation, call the park headquarters at 307-876-2769.

The shelter at Fremont Bay operates on a first-come, first-served basis.

All vehicles will still need a day-use pass to access the group picnic shelters.
