More than 5 miles of Medicine Lodge Creek is accessible from the park with several other walk-in areas within a short drive. Medicine Lodge Creek is abundant with brown trout and is accessible year-round. Other native species of trout can be located nearby the park in Paintrock Creek and the Paintrock Lakes.
Stream fishing is outstanding in Medicine Lodge Creek for brown trout. Both fly and traditional spin tackle does well, especially in early summer and late fall. Wyoming Game and Fish Department regulations do apply.
- Medicine Lodge Creek flows directly through the park and most camp spots.
- Paintrock Creek is approximately a 2-mile drive from the park.
- If you travel up into the national forest there are several very popular lakes and creeks that have an abundance of rainbow, brown and brook trout.
Fishing in and near Medicine Lodge is available year-round.

Medicine Lodge State Archaeological Site is open year round with well maintained access to the park no matter the conditions. The 2025 Group Area reservations begin on January 2 at 8:00am, and will be available online at reserve.wyoming.gov or by calling 877-996-7275. Seasonal Water Closure - October through April (sometimes mid-May) Water will only be available at one hydrant that is located next to the Site Cabin.
