Historical Features  - GUERNSEY

Guernsey State Park is a registered national historic landmark. The park has long been known as a haven for camping, boating and hiking, but its real treasure may lie in the wonderful work completed by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) that can be seen throughout the park. CCC projects like the “Castle,” the Guernsey Museum, historic picnic shelters, unique drinking fountains, trails, bridges and more are a must see at Guernsey State Park.

  • Historic features can be found throughout the park.
  • The “Museum”, picnic shelters at Sitting Bull, Red Cloud, Spotted Tail day use/campgrounds can all be seen on the east side of the reservoir off of Lake Side Drive.
  • Unique structures like the “Castle”, the “Million Dollar Biffy”, Brimmer Point Scenic Overlook and miles of hiking trails can all be found on the west side of the park.
  • The Guernsey Museum is open seasonally from May 1 through September 30.
  • All other historic features and attractions are available for use throughout the year.

Fire Restrictions to Begin at Glendo & Guernsey

Platte County has officially instituted a fire restriction due to high fire danger which will be put into effect in Glendo and Guernsey State Park immediately!

No wood fires or open flames of any kind, tiki torches, or fireworks are allowed while under a fire ban. Please plan ahead and consider bringing a gas or propane stove, charcoal grill (with a lid), or gas fire pit instead. Thank you for your help and cooperation in protecting our resource!

Please be advised that the annual Guernsey silt run will soon take place. Water levels at Guernsey State Park will be affected drastically.

Beginning on July 5th, the release of water from Glendo reservoir will be decreased. Guernsey water levels will lower rapidly, with boat ramps becoming unusable by July 9th. The reservoir is expected to be suitable for swimming/boating again by the morning of July 27th.

Camping in Wyoming State Parks now open to ALL visitors. Social distancing guidelines in place.

  • Guernsey State Park is open all year. Since we do have overnight camping the park is open 24 hours per day with the appropriate permits.
  • The Guernsey Museum is a seasonal facility that is open from May 1 through September 30. Visitors may visit the Museum between the hours of 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m..
