January 26, 2018 The Wyoming Pioneer Memorial Museum (WPMM) will close select, individual galleries for lighting renovation from January 29 through March 2, and we will be completely closed from February 5-19. This two-week total closure will only happen when we are working on the few areas that will effectively block off the rest of the building. The WPMM will be replacing all of our fluorescent and incandescent lights with LED fixtures and installing motion sensors in all of the galleries. Both measures will save on electricity bills, but more importantly help to protect the museum’s wonderful artifacts. Museums measure how much visible light hits an item in what are called lux. The higher the number, the greater the intensity. In one gallery we measured 850 lux when it should be no higher than 50. New safer, cost efficient lighting is critically needed for preserving our artifacts for generations to come, hopefully for the next “500 years”. Please bear with us while we undergo this important change. We know that it will be inconvenient to some but will pay dividends in the conservation of our irreplaceable collections.
