Due to drier than usual conditions and high fuel loads carrying over from last year, the fire danger in Platte County is higher than usual.

Glendo and Guernsey State Parks have been working with the Platte County Commission, who plan to implement fire restrictions beginning June 14. 

"We know that campfires are a favorite pastime when camping, but resource protection has to be at the front of our minds,” Glendo State Park Superintendent Brian Johnson said. “The goal is to protect the resource and provide a safe environment during our visitor's experience at the parks." 

Open fires are restricted, including. campfires, candles, tiki torches, etc. Propane grills and gas fire pits are allowed. Charcoal grills are also allowed but must have a lid. 

There are many other ways to enjoy the ambiance of a campfire without the actual campfire.  Many visitors have had as much fun coming up with creative ideas to create the ambiance they want as they do sitting around the actual campfire. S'mores can always be enjoyed by grilling them over a grill or over a gas fire pit.

Visitors are reminded that possession of fireworks are always prohibited on State Park property.
