The Wyoming Arts Council in partnership with Wyoming State Parks will be hosting two Plein Air in the Parks events in 2024 - Curt Gowdy State Park near Cheyenne on June 19-23, and Hot Springs State Park in Thermopolis on September 11-15.
Early bird registration is now open for both events on eventbrite.com.
Plein Air in the Parks seeks to engage regional and youth artists in the legacy of painting on-site outdoors, all while exploring the rich landscapes of Wyoming. This partnership program began in 2018 at Sinks Canyon State Park and has become a very anticipated annual event.
Artists are invited to participate through one or all of the days, and the public is invited to attend a variety of events throughout the week, which culminates with a reception, show, and sale. At the show and sale, artists are able to show their work completed during their time in the park while guests can browse and purchase the work.
Cash prizes are selected by outside jurors, with awards for youth and teen categories given separately. A People’s Choice Award is selected by attendees at the reception, show, and sale.
Plein Air in the Parks events are intended to open and close the busy season of the State Parks. This collaboration between the Wyoming Arts Council and State Parks aims to highlight the stunning landscapes of our state while engaging with artists and community members through these events.
