Description:
Hawk Springs State Recreation Area (HSSRA) is a small state managed recreation area located approximately 25 miles south of Torrington Wy. The site is one of the only public recreation lakes along the eastern border of Wyoming. HSSRA has overnight camping sites, picnic areas, boat launch ramp, dock, restrooms and playground.
Hawk Springs reservoir and much of the area around the reservoir is owned by the Horse Creek Conservation District. As recreation use at the site increased, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department did the initial development at the reservoir by installing the boat ramp, two restroom facilities, picnic tables, and fire rings. In 1987, the site was named a state recreation area, at which time the Wyoming State Park system agreed to administer the site. The agency further improved the site by expanding the campground, adding an additional restroom, irrigation system, and potable water hydrants. Today, Wyoming State Parks, Historic Sites & Trails continues to administer and manage the land based recreation opportunities at the site while the Wyoming Game and Fish regulates the recreational usage of the water.
