About:

Independence Rock is a giant granite monolith that served as one of the landmarks along the Oregon trail. The Rock's tallest point is 136 feet above the terrain. The Rock was a mile stone for travelers heading west. It became a register of names from one of the earliest 1824 to dates into the 1930s. 18 US code SS 1361- it is illegal to deface, deprecate or damage a national monument. W.S. 36-4-115.

Visitors to the Rock:

The following names and dates were compiled before 1930, from time-to-time, by members of the Casper Chamber of Commerce and Natrona County Historical Society.
