Glendo State Park will celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the dedication of the Glendo Dam and the creation of the Park Jun e 9, from 10 a.m. until 12 noon at the Two Moon Campground Group Shelter.

The United States Bureau of Reclamation started the dam at Glendo in 1954, and completed the structure, along with its powerplant in 1958.

The event will feature a panel of local community members and individuals involved in the dam’s construction. The panel will discuss the town’s past, local families’ stories and the dam’s history. An exhibit cataloging the history of the dam and the town, and showcasing oral histories with Glendo residents will also be on display.

Regarding the park’s legacy, and the importance of this anniversary, Park Superintendent Brian Johnson said, “This is a wonderful opportunity for us to celebrate both the town of Glendo and our park. We have always appreciated our close connection to our community, and we look forward to commemorating that relationship and keeping it going for many more years.”
