Capital Campouts
Governor’s across the country are helping to introduce their citizens to healthy fun in their Great Outdoors by hosting overnight stays by youth on the lawns of their residences, or in nearby state parks with Capital Campouts. In 2016, the scope of Capital Campouts expanded to include events in non-state capitals. These new events are called "Governor's Campouts."

Anything That Floats – Guernsey State Park
The “Anything That Floats” event at Guernsey State Park encourages families to build their own water craft and test its mettle in a race on the reservoir.
Ft. Kearny Youth Pheasant Hunt
The Ft. Kearny Youth Pheasant Hunt is Kids eXtreme event that provides the opportunity for families and friends wanting to hunt with young people ages 17 and younger to harvest pheasants, practice safe hunting skills and enjoy the Piney Creek landscape at the historic fort grounds. The event is an opportunity for adults to demonstrate good hunting practices while making the youth experience a priority.
BBSP Week in the Woods
In partnership with the Cody Parks & Recreation Department and USFS, Buffalo Bill State Park’s Week in the Woods is a Kids eXtreme event that allows youth to learn about Wyoming’s natural resources while staying active in the outdoors.
Ft. Bridger 4th of July Celebration
Ft. Bridger’s annual 4th of July Celebration is a Kids eXtreme event that celebrates Independence Day and allows youth and families the opportunity to learn about life at the fort.
WY Outside Challenge & Kickoff Event
The WY Outside Challenge is a hands-on, outdoor program that provides participants with an opportunity to complete a wide variety of outdoor activities. The scorecard contains WY Outside Challenge activities such as hiking, camping in a yurt, sleeping out under the stars, catching a fish, going snowshoeing and climbing a tree. Points are awarded for each activity and participants keep track of their own score, taking a photo of each completed challenge. Once 200 points are reached, participants receive prizes and are presented with certificates signed by Wyoming Governor, Matt Mead, and Superintendent of Public Instruction, Jillian Balow.
