About:

Fort Phil Kearny Interpretive Center introduces visitors to the 1000 acres that we own/manage/interpret.

Fort Phil Kearny State Historic Site interprets the Bozeman Trail Forts and Plains Indian Wars 1866-1868, namely Battle of the Hundred in the Hand (Fetterman Battle) and Wagon Box Fight.  Fort Phillip Kearny was the largest stocked fort west of the Mississippi and the Fetterman Battle was the largest loss of life suffered by the US Army at the hands of a native force up until Battle of the Little Bighorn, 10 years after the Fetterman.  It was considered a major national upset/tragedy.
